October-November
October marks the transition from monsoon to winter – temperatures drop noticeably and the air clears. October is a good shoulder month with moderate crowds. November is the peak month: Deepotsav (the Ayodhya government’s grand lamp-lighting festival) falls in November and draws millions of visitors. The city is at its most spectacular in November, but hotel rooms near Ram Ki Paidi and Ram Mandir fill completely months in advance.
If Deepotsav is your goal, book hotels by August. If you want November’s weather without the festival crowd, go in the second week of November after the festival has passed.
December-January
The coldest months, with January mornings as low as 5°C-8°C. This cold creates the most atmospheric Saryu Aarti conditions – crisp evening air, rising mist and a silence around the river that summer never delivers.
Ram Mandir queue times are at their shortest during December-January weekday mornings (6:30-8:00 AM). Makar Sankranti on January 14 brings a significant dip at the Sarayu River and moderate-to-high crowds – avoid this specific date if short queues are your priority or arrive extra early.

February-March

Post-2024 Ayodhya sees significantly higher footfall than any of these seasons have historically generated. These tactics work regardless of which month you visit:
