What Nobody Tells You About Banaras Local Sightseeing

The Kashi Vishwanath e-pass is free but fills up for weekends – and this ruins more Varanasi trips than any other planning failure. The free Sugam Darshan e-pass is available at srikashivishwanath.in. Without it, the weekend queue to enter Kashi Vishwanath can exceed 3-5 hours. The Ganga Aarti timing shifts by 1 hour between summer (6:45 PM) and winter (5:45 PM). Most blogs and even many guides say “7:00 PM” or “6:30 PM” generically. The correct summer time is 6:45 PM (April-September) and winter time is 5:45 PM (October-March). Groups arriving at 7:00 PM in November find the Aarti has been over for an hour. Manikarnika Ghat operates 24 hours – pyres never go out – but photography is genuinely off-limits. This is not a gentle cultural guideline. Photographing the funeral pyres at Manikarnika is deeply offensive to the families present and has caused serious incidents between tourists and locals. Do not raise a camera, phone or any device at Manikarnika Ghat regardless of what you may see other tourists doing.

Sarnath’s museum is closed on Fridays. The Sarnath Museum houses the original Ashoka Pillar Lion Capital – the national emblem of India – and is one of the most significant museums in the country. Plan Sarnath on a non-Friday. Experience My India automatically avoids Friday Sarnath scheduling.

Ramnagar Fort requires crossing the Ganga – and the return journey timing matters. The boat crossing from near Tulsi Ghat to Ramnagar takes 10-15 minutes.
