A Varanasi temple tour covers Kashi Vishwanath Jyotirlinga, Annapurna Devi Mandir, Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple, Kaal Bhairav Temple and the Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat. Kashi Vishwanath opens at 2:30 AM; general darshan is FREE; Sugam VIP Darshan costs ₹250 per person – book at shrikashivishwanath.org. Experience My India arranges guided Varanasi temple tours from ₹2,999 per person. WhatsApp +91-7302265809 for same-day booking.
Most people arrive in Varanasi knowing they want to see Kashi Vishwanath. Few arrive knowing that the temple opens at 2:30 AM, that general darshan can mean a 3 to 8 hour queue on Mondays, that the Sugam VIP Darshan costs just ₹250 and cuts that to 15 to 30 minutes, or that the temple closes for 90 minutes between 11:00 AM and 12:30 PM every single day. Without knowing these basics, a Varanasi temple tour becomes reactive – standing in the wrong queue, arriving at a closed gate, missing the Ganga Aarti by 20 minutes.
I am Gurudutt, founder of Experience My India, born and raised in Braj Bhoomi, guiding pilgrims through North India’s most sacred sites since 2018. Our team has guided 50,000+ pilgrims through Varanasi – through the Kashi Vishwanath darshan, the Ganga Aarti and the other temples most guides leave off the list.
By the end of this guide you will know the exact 2026 Kashi Vishwanath timings and aarti prices, the five other temples worth including, the correct day-wise sequence, what a guided Varanasi temple tour realistically costs and what first-time visitors consistently get wrong.

ToggleWhy a Varanasi Temple Tour Needs Planning
Varanasi has over 2,000 temples. Its lanes are narrow and frequently unmarked. The Kashi Vishwanath complex operates a security system that prohibits mobile phones, bags, cameras, wallets and belts inside – all must be left at the cloak room before entry. The temple’s most important aarti (Mangala, 3:00 AM) requires a pre-booked ticket at ₹500 per person. Its busiest day is Monday – the auspicious day of Shiva – when the general queue can stretch to 8 hours.
The good news is that almost all of these friction points have simple fixes: Sugam Darshan at ₹250 reduces the queue to 15-30 minutes; booking online at shrikashivishwanath.org takes 10 minutes; and arriving between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM on a weekday (not Monday) gives you the calmest general darshan window.
Experience My India manages all of this for every pilgrim on a guided Varanasi tour – the locker system, the booking, the correct gate, the timing sequencing. WhatsApp +91-7302265809 to have it handled before you travel.

Key facts verified June 2026:
- The ticket price for Sugam Darshan is ₹250 per person. Some sources mention ₹300, but the majority of recent 2026 information confirms ₹250.
- General queue wait: 3-5 hours weekdays, up to 8 hours on Mondays and during Shravan month. Sugam Darshan wait: 15-30 minutes.
- Sugam Darshan is not available during aarti timings as the temple pauses all darshan during these rituals.
- Differently-abled visitors: FREE entry through a dedicated gate.
- The “Ask Nandi” AI chatbot – launched January 2026 at shrikashivishwanath.org – gives real-time crowd data and best darshan slot recommendations.
- ONLY book at shrikashivishwanath.org – third-party sites charging ₹500-₹2,000 are unauthorized.
What is not allowed inside: Mobile phones, bags, cameras, wallets, belts, leather items. Lockers are available near Gate No. 4. Carry only your ID and ticket.
The Kashi Vishwanath Corridor: The Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor (inaugurated Dec 13, 2021) created a 5-lakh-sq-ft spiritual complex connecting the Jyotirlinga directly to the Ganga – the first time in centuries. Corridor entry: completely FREE. The corridor approach from any ghat riverfront offers the best exterior view of the golden spire – 800 kg of pure gold covers the shikhara.

Top 5 Sacred Temples on a Varanasi Temple Tour
A complete Varanasi temple tour includes Kashi Vishwanath as the centrepiece, with these five temples as the supporting circuit. All sit within 2 to 5 km of the Kashi Vishwanath complex.
Temple 1 – Annapurna Devi Mandir
Located a 5-minute walk from Kashi Vishwanath, inside the same dense lane network. Dedicated to Goddess Annapurna – the goddess of food and nourishment – she is considered the mother who feeds all of Kashi. Tradition holds that you visit Annapurna Devi before or immediately after Kashi Vishwanath, since she sustains the city that Shiva presides over. Open 5:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Free entry.
Temple 2 – Kaal Bhairav Temple
Approximately 1.5 km from Kashi Vishwanath – 10 minutes by auto or 20 minutes on foot through the gali lanes. Lord Kaal Bhairav is worshipped as the Kotwal (protector) of Varanasi – the deity who controls and guards the city on behalf of Shiva. A visit to Kaal Bhairav before entering Varanasi is traditional for many pilgrims; visiting after Kashi Vishwanath completes the spiritual circuit of the city’s guardian and its Lord. One tradition unique to this temple: the deity accepts the offering of liquor – the only such practice at a mainstream Shiva temple in Varanasi. Open 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Free entry.
Temple 3 – Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple
Located approximately 3 km south of Kashi Vishwanath, near Tulsi Ghat – 15 minutes by auto. Founded by the saint-poet Tulsidas, author of the Ramcharitmanas, in the 16th century. “Sankat Mochan” means “remover of troubles” – pilgrims come here specifically to seek relief from particular difficulties in their lives. Monkeys are active throughout the complex. The Friday morning aarti here (Mangala Aarti at 4:00 AM on Fridays) draws the largest weekly gathering. Open 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Free entry.
Temple 4 – Nepali Temple (Lalita Ghat)
Situated on Lalita Ghat, directly on the Ganga riverfront – a 10-minute walk from the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor entrance along the ghat steps. Built in traditional Nepalese pagoda architecture by the Royal House of Nepal in the 19th century, this is the only major example of Nepalese wooden temple architecture in Varanasi. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it’s usually quiet compared to the main temple circuit. Photography of the exterior is permitted from the ghat steps.
Temple 5 – Durga Temple (Durga Kund)
Located approximately 4 km south of Kashi Vishwanath – 15 to 20 minutes by auto. Built in 18th-century Nagara style in red sandstone, with a tank (Durga Kund) adjoining the main complex. This is one of Varanasi’s most important Shakti temples. Open 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The morning session with the tank reflection is the most atmospheric time. Free entry.
| Temple | Distance from Kashi Vishwanath | Best Visit Time | Entry |
| Annapurna Devi Mandir | 200 m – 5 min walk | 7:00-9:00 AM (morning) | Free |
| Kaal Bhairav Temple | 1.5 km – 10 min auto | 7:00-9:00 AM | Free |
| Sankat Mochan Hanuman | 3 km – 15 min auto | 6:00-8:00 AM or 5:00-7:00 PM | Free |
| Nepali Temple (Lalita Ghat) | 0.8 km – 10 min ghat walk | Morning or pre-aarti | Free |
| Durga Temple (Durga Kund) | 4 km – 15 min auto | 7:00-9:00 AM | Free |
The Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat
The Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat is the visual centrepiece of any Varanasi visit – a synchronized ritual performed by a group of 7 priests, beginning at approximately 7:00 PM and running for 45 to 60 minutes. The Aarti is held every evening without exception, year-round.
| Ganga Aarti detail | Information |
| Location | Dashashwamedh Ghat – 0.5 km from Kashi Vishwanath Corridor entrance |
| Time | 7:00 PM (winter months slightly earlier) |
| Duration | 45-60 minutes |
| Entry | Free – watch from the ghat steps, a boat, or the upper platform |
| Best position | Hired boat on the Ganga (₹200-₹500 per boat) – provides unobstructed frontal view |
| Arrive | By 6:30 PM for ghat-step seating or 6:15 PM for a good boat position |
The alternative – and arguably better – position for the Ganga Aarti is a boat on the river. Most visitors who see the Aarti from the ghat steps find themselves viewing it from the side or rear of the priest formation. A boat positioned directly in front gives the frontal view that photographs and video cannot adequately capture from the shore. Experience My India pre-arranges boats as part of every Varanasi tour – call +91-7302265809 to add this to your evening plan.

How to Reach the Temples – Distances & Transport
The Kashi Vishwanath complex is at the heart of Varanasi’s old city (Godowlia area). Private vehicles cannot reach most inner-gali points – the final 200-500 metres to all major temples must be covered on foot.
| From | Distance to Kashi Vishwanath | Mode | Cost / Time |
| Varanasi Junction (railway station) | 5 km | Auto / taxi | ₹80-₹150 – 15-25 min |
| Varanasi Cantt. Station | 6 km | Auto / taxi | ₹100-₹180 – 20-30 min |
| Babatpur Airport (Varanasi) | 25 km | Taxi | ₹600-₹900 – 45-60 min |
| Prayagraj | 120 km | Car / AC train | 2-2.5 hours |
| Ayodhya | 210 km | Car | 4-4.5 hours |
| Delhi | 820 km | Overnight train (Kashi Vishwanath Express, Vande Bharat) | 8-12 hours depending on train |
Within Varanasi, auto-rickshaws are the standard between temples – the narrow gali network is impassable by larger vehicles. A full-day auto hire costs ₹500-₹700. Experience My India uses pre-arranged private AC cab from the city outskirts with a local guide for all temple-to-temple movement – no per-ride negotiation, no confusion in lanes. WhatsApp +91-7302265809 to arrange airport or station pickup.

Best Time to Visit Varanasi
| Season | Months | Temperature | Verdict |
| Winter | November – February | 10-22°C | Best – cool mornings, full temple access, Ganga Aarti is vivid in evening chill |
| Spring | March – April | 20-32°C | Good – Holi period, Dev Deepawali (October-November) – book 4-6 weeks ahead |
| Summer | May – June | 38-46°C | Restrict to 4:30-8:00 AM and 5:30-8:00 PM; ghats are uncomfortably hot at noon |
| Monsoon | July – September | 26-34°C | Ganga levels rise; ghats may partially flood; temples unaffected |
| Shravan Month | July-Aug 2026 | Monsoon | Shiva’s sacred month – largest Kashi Vishwanath crowds of the year; Mondays 8+ hr queue; Sugam Darshan essential |
| Dev Deepawali | Nov 12, 2026 | 18-24°C | 84 ghats lit with lakhs of lamps – the most visually striking Varanasi evening of the year; book 3 months ahead |
Experience My India adjusts every Varanasi itinerary around the specific crowd and climate conditions of each season – the morning window that works in February is different from the one that works in June. Call +91-7302265809 for a season-specific plan.
Ground Truth – What Nobody Tells You
The 11:00 AM-12:30 PM closure is harder to plan around than it sounds. Most pilgrims who start their day at 9:00-10:00 AM hit this closure just as they finish the ghat walk and reach the temple gate. The correct approach is to start by 6:00-7:00 AM so darshan is done before 10:30 AM and use the 11 AM-12:30 PM window for lunch and the shorter temples.
Monday queues are in a different category from every other day. Monday is Shiva’s auspicious day – the general queue on a Monday in peak season (November-March) can exceed 8 hours. If your Varanasi dates include a Monday, either book Sugam Darshan in advance or plan Kashi Vishwanath for a different day of your trip.
Third-party Sugam Darshan “agents” on WhatsApp charge ₹500-₹2,000 for a ticket that costs ₹250 on the official portal. The only authorised booking site is shrikashivishwanath.org. No tour operator, no agent on the street and no WhatsApp service can legitimately sell this ticket for more than ₹250. Experience My India directs every pilgrim to the official portal directly and never adds a markup on the Sugam Darshan ticket itself.
No electronics means no electronics. Smartwatches, power banks, fitness trackers and earbuds all trigger the security check at the Kashi Vishwanath entrance – not just cameras and phones. Leave all electronics in your locker or hotel room. The lockers near Gate No. 4 are paid (₹20-₹50 per item).
The Ganga Aarti from the ghat steps gives a side view, not a frontal view. The 7 priests face the river – if you are standing on the ghat, you are behind or beside them. The frontal view, which is what every photograph of the Aarti shows, is visible only from a boat on the river, or from the temporary upper platform seating available at some sections of the ghat.
Experience My India plans every Varanasi visit around these exact realities. WhatsApp +91-7302265809 to build them into your itinerary.
Frequently Asked Questions
November to February is the best time for a Kashi Vishwanath trip – temperatures stay between 10°C and 22°C, temple conditions are comfortable and the Ganga Aarti is at its most atmospheric in the cool evenings. Dev Deepawali (November 12 in 2026) is the single most visually striking evening in Varanasi – 84 ghats lit with lamps – but requires booking 3 months ahead. Shravan month (July-August) brings the year’s largest crowds. Experience My India adjusts every itinerary seasonally – WhatsApp +91-7302265809 for the best plan for your travel dates.
A self-planned 1-day Varanasi temple tour for 2 people costs ₹3,000-₹6,000 all-in excluding intercity travel – covering Sugam Darshan (₹250/person), boat rides (₹300-₹500), local auto (₹500-₹700) and meals. An Experience My India 1-day guided package starts from ₹2,999 per person, including private cab, guide, Sugam Darshan coordination and Ganga Aarti boat. 2-day packages with hotel start from ₹4,499 per person. WhatsApp +91-7302265809 for a personalised quote.
Sugam Darshan (the official VIP darshan) at Kashi Vishwanath Temple costs ₹250 per person in 2026, as confirmed by the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust. It reduces the general queue of 3 to 8 hours down to 15 to 30 minutes. Book ONLY at shrikashivishwanath.org – any third-party site or agent charging more is unauthorized. Differently-abled visitors enter free. Experience My India walks every pilgrim through the official booking process – WhatsApp +91-7302265809 for help before you travel.
Start with Kashi Vishwanath Temple – it is the primary pilgrimage purpose for most visitors and has the most complex logistics (Sugam Darshan booking, security, locker system, gate entry). Visit between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM on a non-Monday weekday for the calmest conditions. Annapurna Devi Mandir, just 200 metres away, is the natural second stop immediately after. Experience My India always sequences Kashi Vishwanath first in every Varanasi itinerary – call +91-7302265809 for the day’s confirmed schedule.
Watching the Ganga Aarti from the ghat steps is completely free. Hiring a boat for the frontal view costs approximately ₹200-₹500 depending on the size and whether it’s shared or private. The Aarti runs every evening at approximately 7:00 PM for 45 to 60 minutes. Arrive by 6:30 PM for a good ghat position or 6:15 PM for a boat booking. Experience My India includes a pre-arranged Ganga Aarti boat in every Varanasi tour package – WhatsApp +91-7302265809.
Yes – general darshan is free and walk-in, but the queue on weekdays ranges from 1 to 3 hours and on Mondays and during Shravan month it can reach 8 hours or more. Walk-in on a non-Monday weekday between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM gives the shortest wait. For a short or planned visit, Experience My India strongly recommends Sugam Darshan (₹250, shrikashivishwanath.org) booked 2 to 3 days ahead. We handle the booking for every pilgrim on our guided tours – call +91-7302265809.
One day covers the major Varanasi temple circuit (Kashi Vishwanath, Annapurna Devi, Kaal Bhairav, Sankat Mochan, Durga Temple) plus the Ganga Aarti, if you start by 6:00 AM. Two days adds Sarnath (the Buddhist pilgrimage site 10-13 km away) and allows a more relaxed morning ghat walk. Experience My India offers both a 1-day and 2-day Varanasi package – from ₹2,999 and ₹4,499 per person respectively. WhatsApp +91-7302265809 to choose the right duration.
No – mobile phones, cameras, smartwatches, power banks, bags, wallets and belts are all strictly prohibited inside the Kashi Vishwanath Temple complex. All electronics must be left in paid lockers near Gate No. 4 (₹20-₹50 per item) before entering. Photography of the exterior and the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor area is permitted from outside the security perimeter. Experience My India briefs every pilgrim on these rules 24 hours before the visit – call +91-7302265809 for a pre-trip checklist.

Conclusion
A Varanasi temple tour is one of the most logistically specific pilgrimages in India – not because it’s difficult, but because Kashi Vishwanath’s timings, Sugam Darshan, Monday crowds and 11 AM closure are facts that change the shape of your entire day. Get them right and a one-day visit covers five major temples and the Ganga Aarti. Get them wrong and you spend the morning in a 3-hour queue and arrive at the gate 10 minutes into the midday closure.
Experience My India has guided 50,000+ pilgrims through exactly this day since 2018. Guided Varanasi temple tours from ₹2,999 per person – private cab, a Braj-born guide, Sugam Darshan pre-arranged, Ganga Aarti boat booked.
