The Ayodhya Ram Mandir – inaugurated January 2024, built in traditional Nagara style with a 161-foot main tower – is open for darshan daily from 7:00 AM to 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Aarti is held at 6:30 AM, 12:00 PM and 7:30 PM. General darshan is free; Sugam Darshan e-passes are available at no charge on srjbtkshetra.org. On 22 January 2024, after centuries of devotion, decades of legal proceedings and four years of construction, the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya was consecrated before the nation. Lord Shri Ram returned to his birthplace in a form that pilgrims from across India and the world can now visit, see and stand before. The temple – built in the traditional Nagara architectural style, rising 161 feet above the sacred land of Ram Janmabhoomi – draws hundreds of thousands of pilgrims every month.
Planning your Ram Mandir darshan without preparation leads to the same outcome every time: arriving at the wrong gate, carrying a bag that security will not allow inside, missing the aarti by 20 minutes because the queue moved slower than expected. This guide removes every one of those variables.
I am Gurudutt, founder of Experience My India, born in Braj Bhoomi and guiding pilgrims to Ayodhya, Varanasi, Mathura and Vrindavan since 2018. My team has helped 50,000+ pilgrims plan and complete their sacred journeys. In this guide you will find exact darshan timings, the complete aarti schedule, step-by-step e-pass instructions, the security checklist, all three routes to Ayodhya and the honest ground truths that most travel websites do not publish. Call +91-7302265809 when you are ready to plan.

ToggleWhy the Ram Mandir Darshan Requires Advance Planning
The Ram Mandir is not an ordinary temple visit. The structure stands at the most contested and spiritually significant site in Hinduism – the birthplace of Lord Shri Ram. Since its inauguration in January 2024, it has become one of the most visited religious sites in India, with daily footfall regularly exceeding 100,000 pilgrims on festival days and 30,000–50,000 on ordinary weekdays.
Three things determine whether your darshan is peaceful or frustrating:
1. Timing: The difference between arriving at 7:00 AM and arriving at 10:00 AM on a weekday is the difference between a 20-minute queue and a 2-hour queue. The morning slot fills fast.
2. Preparation: Phones, bags, power banks and leather items are not permitted inside the temple premises. Pilgrims who arrive without knowing this spend 20–40 minutes at the security counter managing their belongings instead of entering.
3. Mode of access: General darshan and Sugam Darshan (e-pass) use different entry points. Pilgrims who do not know this join the longer general queue even when they hold a valid e-pass.
Experience My India coordinates all three for every Ayodhya pilgrimage group we guide – timing, preparation and correct entry point. Call +91-7302265809 before you plan.
Ayodhya Ram Mandir – History and Significance
Ayodhya is described in the Ramayana and the Atharva Veda as the birthplace of Lord Shri Ram – the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu and the ideal of dharmic kingship in Hindu tradition. The city has been a continuous pilgrimage site for over two millennia.
Timeline of the Ram Janmabhoomi
| Year | Event |
| Ancient period | Ayodhya identified in scriptures as Ram Janmabhoomi – birthplace of Lord Shri Ram |
| 1528 CE | A mosque constructed on or near the disputed site during the Mughal era |
| 1949 | Idols of Ram Lalla discovered inside the disputed structure; site locked by court order |
| 1992 | Structure demolished; prolonged legal proceedings begin |
| November 2019 | Supreme Court of India delivers unanimous verdict – site awarded to Ram Lalla; mosque land awarded separately |
| August 5, 2020 | Prime Minister Narendra Modi lays the foundation stone (bhoomi puja) of the new Ram Mandir |
| January 22, 2024 | Ram Mandir officially consecrated (Pran Pratishtha) – temple opens for public darshan |
The Temple Structure: The Ram Mandir is built in the traditional Nagara architectural style – the shikhara (main tower) rises 161 feet above ground level. The complex spans 70 acres of Ram Janmabhoomi land. The main sanctum houses the deity of Ram Lalla – Lord Rama as a child – in a black stone idol carved from a single shalagram stone. The temple is built entirely of Rajasthan pink sandstone without iron or steel in the construction.

Important: Timings fluctuate based on crowd level, seasonal festivals and special puja schedules. Always confirm on the official website (srjbtkshetra.org) or call +91-7302265809 – Experience My India’s team monitors current Ayodhya darshan windows in real time for all our tour groups.
Aarti Timings at Ram Mandir Ayodhya
The Ram Mandir conducts three main aartis daily. Each aarti is performed by the temple priests in the sanctum before the deity of Ram Lalla – attendance is the most spiritually significant part of the Ram Mandir visit for many pilgrims.
| Aarti | Timing | Notes |
| Mangala Aarti (morning) | 6:30 AM | Conducted before general darshan opens; Sugam Darshan e-pass required for priority access |
| Madhyahna Aarti (noon) | 12:00 PM | During afternoon break – general public not inside during this aarti |
| Sandhya / Shayan Aarti (evening) | 7:30 PM | Most attended aarti; arrive at least 45 minutes before |
Aarti access reality: The Sandhya Aarti at 7:30 PM is the most requested aarti for first-time visitors. General crowd at this aarti peaks significantly. Pilgrims who arrive at 7:15 PM without a Sugam Darshan pass typically stand at the perimeter rather than close to the sanctum. Arrive by 6:45 PM with your e-pass for a position with a clear darshan line.
📌 Experience My India field note: We schedule all Ayodhya group arrivals to reach the temple by 6:45 PM on the first evening – the Sandhya Aarti with the temple lit at sunset is one of the most powerful ritual experiences in the pilgrimage circuit. Call +91-7302265809 to plan your arrival around the aarti schedule.
Sugam Darshan E-Pass – How to Book for Free
The Sugam Darshan system provides a pre-allocated darshan slot that allows entry through a separate, faster-moving queue. The pass is entirely free of charge and is issued through the official Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust website.
Step-by-Step E-Pass Booking
Step 1: Visit the official website: srjbtkshetra.org
Step 2: Click “Sugam Darshan” from the main navigation menu.
Step 3: Register with your mobile number (OTP verification required). One mobile number can book passes for up to 10 pilgrims in a single booking.
Step 4: Select your darshan date and preferred time slot. Slots are released in batches – check availability 2–7 days before your intended visit date.
Step 5: Enter the name and ID proof type for each pilgrim (Aadhaar, passport or voter ID accepted).
Step 6: Download and print the e-pass OR keep the PDF on your phone. Both formats are accepted at the Sugam Darshan entry gate.
At the gate: Show the e-pass + the matching ID proof for each pilgrim. Mismatched IDs result in rejection – carry the exact ID you registered with.
Important: If the Sugam Darshan slots for your date show as full, check again 24–48 hours before your visit – cancellations release slots regularly.
📌 Experience My India field note: Our team books Sugam Darshan e-passes for all Ayodhya pilgrimage groups as part of our tour service – so you arrive with passes confirmed and IDs matched. Individuals booking independently: book at least 5 days ahead during October–March when slots fill within hours of release. Call +91-7302265809.
What NOT to Carry – Security Rules at Ram Mandir
The Ram Mandir security protocol is strict and enforced at multiple checkpoints before temple entry. Every item below has been the cause of pilgrims being turned back from the gate – read this section before packing.
Items NOT Permitted Inside Ram Mandir Premises
| Category | Specific Items Prohibited |
| Electronics | Mobile phones, cameras, video cameras, smartwatches, earphones |
| Power and storage | Power banks, USB drives, external batteries |
| Bags and luggage | All bags – including small handbags, backpacks and ladies’ purses |
| Leather items | Leather belts, leather wallets, leather shoes |
| Food and liquid | Outside food, bottled water (drink before entering – water available outside) |
| Metal items | Metal water bottles, keys (deposit with companion or locker) |
What to Do With Prohibited Items
Cloak rooms (lockers): Free secure locker facilities are provided near all entry gates. Lockers are typically available in sufficient numbers – no advance booking needed. Allow 10–15 minutes for deposit and collection.
Leave with a companion: If one member of your group is not entering the temple – a family member staying outside with children, for example – they can hold electronics and bags outside.
Hotel deposit: Leave all phones and bags at your hotel before departure to the temple if you are travelling with a group. This is the approach Experience My India follows for all Ayodhya tour groups – zero gate problems.
Footwear: Remove footwear before the final gate. Footwear stands are provided. Carry a small cloth bag for your chappals if you prefer not to use the stand.
📌 Experience My India field note: The most common avoidable delay at Ram Mandir is pilgrims arriving with smartphones and discovering at Gate 3 that they cannot proceed. Our pre-departure briefing covers the complete list – every pilgrim in our group enters without gate issues. Call +91-7302265809.

| Place | Distance from Ram Mandir | What It Is | Best Time |
| Hanuman Garhi | 800 metres | 10th-century hilltop temple to Lord Hanuman – 76 steps to the main sanctum; the tradition holds that Hanuman guards Ram Janmabhoomi from this elevated fort | 7:00 AM – 9:00 AM |

Ayodhya Food Guide and What to Buy
What Ayodhya Is Famous for – Food
Ayodhya is a strictly vegetarian city. The food here is rooted in the Awadhi and eastern UP tradition – simple, satvik (pure) and deeply tied to the pilgrimage culture.
| Food Item | Where to Find It | Price |
| Prasad Khichdi | Temple prasad counters near Ram Mandir | Free / ₹10–₹20 |
| Malpua | Sweet shops near Hanuman Garhi lane | ₹30–₹60 per plate |
| Balushahi | Mithai shops in Chowk area | ₹200–₹400 per kg |
| Rabri and Jalebi | Evening stalls near Saryu ghat | ₹40–₹80 per plate |
| Kachori Sabzi | Morning stalls near Ayodhya Dham station | ₹30–₹50 per plate |
| Laung Lata | Authentic Ayodhya sweet – clove-stuffed fried pastry | ₹20–₹40 each |
| Chaat and Thandai | Street stalls near Ram Mandir exit lanes | ₹20–₹50 per item |
What to Buy in Ayodhya
| Item | Best Location | Price Range |
| Ram Lalla idol (brass/marble) | Shops near Ram Mandir gate | ₹150 – ₹5,000+ |
| Tulsi mala (prayer beads) | Temple lane shops | ₹50 – ₹300 |
| Ramayan – printed editions | Temple trust bookshop | ₹80 – ₹500 |
| Ayodhya prasad box (packed) | Official temple counter | ₹50 – ₹150 |
| Wooden toys and handicrafts | Chowk market | ₹100 – ₹800 |
| Ittar (natural perfume) | Old market lanes | ₹150 – ₹800 |
| Saffron tilak set | All temple lane shops | ₹50 – ₹200 |
Shopping tip: The lanes immediately outside the Ram Mandir entry gate are the most crowded and most expensive. Walk 200–300 metres further into the old market lanes for the same items at 30–40% lower prices and without the crowd pressure near the gates.
Ground Truth – What Nobody Tells You About Ram Mandir Darshan
1. The morning queue at 7:00 AM on a festival weekend exceeds 4 hours – even with a Sugam Darshan pass. On Ram Navami, Diwali and Vivah Panchami – the major Ram Mandir festival days – the combined pilgrim count exceeds 150,000. On these days, the Sugam Darshan pass significantly reduces queue time but does not eliminate it. Expect 60–90 minutes even with a pass. Plan accordingly – or choose weekday visits in non-festival months.
2. The 161-foot tower is visible from 3 km away – but the inner sanctum darshan is 90 seconds long. The Ram Mandir is visually extraordinary. The darshan of Ram Lalla inside the sanctum is approximately 60–90 seconds of direct line-of-sight to the deity before the queue moves forward. Pilgrims who expect an extended standing darshan are often surprised by the pace. The quality of those 90 seconds depends entirely on your mental preparation, not on how long you stand.
3. Lockers fill up fast – between 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM, locker queues can be 15–20 minutes. The free cloak rooms near the entry gates are sufficient in number but become congested during the peak morning window. Arriving at 7:00 AM means 5-minute locker deposit. Arriving at 9:30 AM means 20-minute locker deposit before you even join the darshan queue.
4. The Saryu River Aarti at Ram ki Pairi ghat at 6:30 PM is uncrowded compared to Ram Mandir – and equally moving. Most first-time Ayodhya visitors spend all their time at the Ram Mandir and miss the Saryu Aarti entirely. The evening ritual on the Saryu – priests performing lamp offerings to the sacred river with chanting that echoes off the water – is a completely different spiritual experience from the temple darshan. Experience My India includes Saryu Aarti in all our Ayodhya itineraries. It takes 45 minutes and costs nothing.
5. Ayodhya Dham station opened in December 2023 – but not all trains stop here. Some still stop only at Ayodhya Cantt (FD). The new Ayodhya Dham (AY) station is the closest to the Ram Mandir (3 km). Several trains – including some express services from Delhi – still route to the older Ayodhya Cantt (FD) station 5 km away. Before booking, confirm which station your specific train stops at – the 2 km difference matters when you are managing a group with luggage.
Experience My India verifies train stops, locker timing and e-pass availability for every Ayodhya tour. Call +91-7302265809 – we plan around these realities, not around generic advice.

For the best prices, walk 200–300 metres away from the main gate lanes into the old market. Experience My India guides take all groups to the correct market areas. Call +91-7302265809.
Ayodhya is strictly vegetarian and known for Malpua (sweet pancakes with rabri), Laung Lata (clove-stuffed fried pastry), Balushahi (a flaky milk-based sweet), Kachori Sabzi at morning stalls near Ayodhya Dham station and the temple prasad Khichdi – simple, satvik and distributed near the Ram Mandir gates. Evening stalls near Saryu ghat serve fresh Jalebi and Rabri. All street food in Ayodhya follows strict vegetarian and no-onion, no-garlic pilgrimage-town standards. Experience My India includes a food walk in extended Ayodhya itineraries. Call +91-7302265809.
October to March is the most comfortable season for Ayodhya – temperatures range from 10°C to 28°C, all sites are accessible and the winter evenings at Saryu ghat are among the most serene in the pilgrimage calendar. Ram Navami (March–April) is the most spiritually significant festival day but draws 150,000+ pilgrims. Diwali in Ayodhya – when the entire city and all ghats are lit with hundreds of thousands of earthen lamps – is extraordinary in scale. Book 90 days ahead for Diwali. Experience My India plans year-round – call +91-7302265809.

The older Ayodhya Cantt (FD) station is 5 km from the temple – e-rickshaw approximately ₹60–₹80. Experience My India arranges station pickup for all Ayodhya tour groups – driver waiting at the station exit with group name display. Call +91-7302265809 to confirm your arrival train.
No – mobile phones are strictly prohibited inside Ram Mandir premises. This rule is enforced at every security checkpoint. Deposit your phone at the free cloak room facility near the entry gate (5–20 minutes depending on queue time). Smartwatches, earphones, power banks and camera devices are also not permitted. Arrive at the cloak room before 8:30 AM to avoid the peak locker queue. Experience My India advises all pilgrims to leave phones at their hotel before departing for the temple. Call +91-7302265809 for the complete pre-temple checklist.
Ram Mandir general darshan timings in 2026 are 7:00 AM to 11:30 AM (morning session) and 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM (evening session). The temple closes from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM for rituals. Conclusion
The Ram Mandir at Ayodhya is not simply a temple – it is the physical manifestation of a devotion that has continued across centuries and generations. Standing before Ram Lalla in the sanctum of the new temple, on the land where the scriptures place his birth, is a darshan that pilgrims describe in terms that go beyond ordinary religious experience.
What determines whether that experience unfolds in peace or in logistical frustration is preparation: the e-pass booked, the phone left at the hotel, the arrival timed to the 7:00 AM opening rather than the 10:00 AM rush. Experience My India handles every one of those details for 50,000+ pilgrims. Our Ayodhya packages start from ₹2,999 per person, rated 4.5★ by 204+ verified pilgrims.
